Engineering Expertise and Plant Construction from a Single Source

For the new combined heat and power plant at Theurl Holz Assling GmbH in East Tyrol, Kremsmüller provided extensive services in the areas of piping and plant construction. The project makes an important contribution to the sustainable energy supply of the wood processing company, which uses byproducts from wood processing to generate electricity and heat.

Kremsmüller was responsible for the detailed engineering of the thermohydraulic hot-water piping, the delivery and installation of the 26-meter-high buffer tank, and the integration of pumps, heat exchangers, and valves into the overall system. This involved the installation of over 1.1 kilometers of piping with nominal diameters ranging from DN 15 to DN 500.

From Piping Concept to Detailed Engineering

Early in the project, the Kremsmüller team developed a complete detailed engineering design based on a piping concept. This included a 3D plant model, isometric drawings, material take-offs, lists of valves and measurement points, and the structural design of the secondary supports.

“The success of this project lies in the close integration of engineering, procurement, prefabrication, and installation. Thanks to cross-disciplinary collaboration within Kremsmüller, we were able to quickly translate the technical planning into a workable solution and meet the demanding schedule,” explains Muamer A., project manager at Kremsmüller.

Implementation was particularly challenging due to tight deadlines and coordination pressures. Only a few months elapsed between the project’s start and the beginning of installation. Thanks to close coordination among the departments involved, material procurement, planning, and installation were optimally synchronized.

United Skills in Practice
A technical highlight was the buffer tank, which stood 26 meters tall and had a diameter of 3.6 meters. This was complemented by a complex hot-water piping system featuring more than 15,000 inches of welded seams. A large portion of the piping was prefabricated and then integrated into the overall system on site.

The project once again demonstrated Kremsmüller’s strengths: From technical design and structural analysis to installation, all services were seamlessly integrated. It is precisely this close collaboration among the various departments that makes it possible to efficiently implement complex industrial projects, reduce interfaces, and provide comprehensive support to customers. In doing so, Kremsmüller reaffirmed its role as a reliable partner for demanding energy and infrastructure projects.
