Tank farm: Technical precision over 750 meters of pipe length
Leikermoser Energiehandel relied on Kremsmüller’s technical expertise for the construction of a new tank farm in Hallein. The project involved complex pipework, precise surface finishing, and sophisticated welding technology—all carried out under challenging conditions.
Kremsmüller took on the entire piping for the new tank farm, from the truck loading area to the emptying station on the railway track. A total of 750 meters of standard steel pipes in various dimensions and materials were installed. The pipes are designed for diesel and gasoline fuels, which are transported at a flow rate of 2.5 m/s.
The steel components, such as the feed beams, were manufactured at the headquarters in Steinhaus. To ensure maximum purity, the pipes were sandblasted inside and out and coated in pure white at the customer’s request. In addition, the surface roughness was precisely defined to meet the requirements for surface finishing.
On-site installation placed high demands on precision and coordination:
- Multiple measurements and determination of the pipe routing
- Cutting and pre-fitting of the pipe sections
- TIG welding of around 700 weld seams under difficult weather conditions
The result: a robust, high-performance piping system that meets the high requirements for flow, tightness, and durability. Adherence to deadlines and quality were paramount in this project—and were successfully implemented.
