How the Kremsmueller team masters the challenges of mining sites
Kremsmueller employees have the unique opportunity to work on construction sites that are far removed from everyday life – high up in the mountains. Such special projects require exceptional adaptability to extreme conditions. After all, the daily challenges on a construction site in the mountains should not be underestimated. The weather often plays a decisive role. With the weather app, the team can always keep an eye on the conditions. In the event of a rapidly approaching storm, work is stopped, the team packs up quickly and the workers are picked up. If it drizzles, the welding umbrellas are used as umbrellas. Heavy rain days are days off. The biggest challenge in construction site work, the weather, requires one thing above all: flexibility.
Several challenges on the mountain
The thin air and the physical exertion demand everything from the workers. The route to the construction site is either by car, gondola or snowcat as far as possible. During the day, the only option is often to climb, which requires a good physical condition. Logistical challenges are omnipresent. Tools and materials have to be transported by helicopter or snowcat. Before leaving for the construction site, everything is checked several times to make sure nothing has been forgotten. Special equipment is essential for the construction site on the mountain: good shoes and warm clothing for the workers, as well as all-terrain machines for transporting the toolboxes, such as the walking excavator, which is irreplaceable. Pipes are brought to the construction site by helicopter.
Many nations come together
Working in a multicultural team also brings with it many challenges. In a team of eight, it can happen that every worker comes from a different country. Most of them speak no German and little English. Nevertheless, communication is mastered with translation apps and a lot of gesticulation. After dinner together, the workers like to spend their evenings alone and talk to their families on the phone.
