X-ray machine for hospital in Africa

The St. Francis Referral Hospital is responsible for providing healthcare to 600,000 persons. A mobile X-ray machine was urgently required.

Since 1995, the Tyrolean association Doctors for Ifakara has been supporting a hospital in the south-east of Tanzania: The St. Francis Referral Hospital in Ifakara. This small hospital is responsible for providing healthcare to a population of 600,000 – over an area comparable to that of Switzerland.

Among other things, the St. Francis Hospital has to treat a lot of fractures. This includes the corresponding operations as well. A C-arm X-ray machine is a big help in such a situation. Using it, the position of the bone fragments can be viewed during the operation, greatly shortening the operation times and facilitating more accurate working. Its deployment significantly shortens the sequences of the operation procedures. Of course, such a deployment has to be preceded by training in the use of the machine. Kremsmueller helped to finance this X-ray machine, which was required so urgently. Sustainable healthcare has thus been ensured for the population in and around Ifakara thanks to the “Tyrolean Hospital”.
