A challenging project at an altitude of 2,400 meters<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kremsm\u00fcller is carrying out an impressive construction project for Tiroler Wasserkraft AG (TIWAG) in Schranbach in the Sulztal valley. At 2,400 meters above sea level, a penstock for the water intake and an energy line are being built. The high alpine location poses particular challenges for man and material.<\/p>\n

Planning and preparation in Steinhaus<\/strong><\/p>\n

Months before the actual start of construction, preparations were already in full swing at Kremsm\u00fcller’s company headquarters in Steinhaus near Wels. The project team developed detailed assembly concepts, carried out static calculations and created the necessary drawings.<\/p>\n

Prefabrication of the assembly units<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work also began early in the prefabrication department in Steinhaus. Here, the assembly units were made from stainless steel and fitted with rings, which were later used to help insert the pipeline into the mountain. The pipes were also pre-insulated so that only the weld seams needed to be re-insulated on site. The dye penetration test, a process for detecting surface cracks and defects, ensured the highest quality and safety.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Assembly in high alpine terrain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back at the construction site in Schranbach: the prefabricated steel structure was assembled here first. The 16-metre-high tower, which weighs several tons, was used to insert the pipes for the pressure and power lines. In total, the pipes weigh around 100 tons. All materials and personnel were transported by cable car, which was the most efficient solution in this terrain.<\/p>\n

Progress and planning<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first assembly unit was successfully installed before the winter. The project managers were satisfied with the progress and adherence to the schedule. During the winter months, the construction site was at a standstill, which provided the ideal time to plan and schedule the final details.<\/p>\n

The mountain calls in spring<\/strong><\/p>\n

As soon as the snow and weather conditions allow it again in spring, the work in Schranbach will pick up speed again.
