facility. For this purpose, three pressure tanks with a length of 30 metres each, a diameter of 4 metres and a volume of 340m3 were manufactured in Steinhaus.  <br\/><br\/> The 85-ton heat storage units made their way individually to Kaiserslautern on the 600-kilometer route ? a logistical challenge that began at the gates of the Kremsm\u00fcller production plant. In order for the special vehicle with vessel bed trailer to be able to leave the plant at all, box hedges had to be moved and green areas next to the road covered with inch-thick iron plates. <br\/><br\/> After crossing the road and the employee car park, the vehicle pulled out of the hall and set off for Kaiserslautern. In front of the entrance to the Stadtwerke, the apparatus were then reloaded due to their enormous dimensions onto self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs). <br\/><br\/> The lifting and installation operations on anchor baskets supplied by Kremsm\u00fcller in advance ran smoothly. The heat storage facility is to be integrated into the district heating network by the start of the 2017\/2018 heating period. This will enable the production of electricity and district heating to be decentralised and respond more flexibly to market requirements.
